Tuesday Tutorial | Jubbly Dragon Pop-Up Surprise Card

Happy Tutorial Tuesday! leslierahye here with a tutorial replay from several years ago. I am sharing with you the Pop-Up Surprise Card. This is a great little interactive card that is easy to create and makes for a fun little surprise for the recipient of the card! Today I am working with my favorite Jubbly Dragon and the Delightful OZ backgound.  The background set can be colored differently to look like a castle rather than OZ. The brick road was colored brown.

Knight and Dragon Sentiment Set

The Delightful Oz Background, Jubbly Dragon and the "Time's a Dragon" sentiment were printed on heavy card stock with a laser printer and then colored with Colourart Twinkling H2Os. The Background was trimmed down to 5" square for the card front. The sentiment and Jubbly Dragon were fussy cut for the card front and Surprise Pop-Up sentiment!

For the card base I cut 2 8½×5½" pieces of heavy card stock and scored them at 1½" and again at 3" to make the interactive folds for the card.

I also cut a tab 3"×1½". It was scored in half short-ways and then one side was scored diagonally. It will be glued on the piece of card stock that will be the front. The 1st 1½" will have double stick tape to adhere it to the back. The 2nd 1½" [between the 2 score lines] will have the short tab glued to it. The photo above shows the folded tab and where it will be glued to the front piece. This will fold down on the inside when the card is closed and pop up when the card is pulled flat.

When the front and back is adhered together. it looks like the above card base.

When the card base is extended to flat the tab pops up and you can see where to glue the sentiment! I trimmed off the corners of the tab to conform with the sentiment.

To finish the card, the background was layered on some pattern paper and then onto the base. JubblyDragon was added to the cover with foam tape for dimension. Additional strips of the background pattern paper were added to the sides to add continuity to the card.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial!
